When It's Worth Parking at the Airport and When to Take a Bolt Instead
You're facing a departure and wondering whether it's worth driving to the airport or calling a Bolt instead. The answer isn't universal. It depends on the number of passengers, length of stay, season and where you're starting from. When you break it down by these criteria, the decision can be made in a minute.
How Much Does Bolt to the Airport Cost
Bolt from Bratislava city centre to BTS airport typically costs €10 to €18 in 2026. It depends on the time, demand and exact address. The return trip means another €10 to €18, so count on €20 to €36 both ways.
Note, that's the price per ride, not per passenger. If you're flying with two or three people, you still pay the same amount. That's the advantage of Bolt when travelling alone or as a couple.
The problem comes with the return. You can't book a Bolt in advance for a specific arrival time. If you land late in the evening or at night, prices tend to be higher and waiting times for a driver longer. We wrote about how transport works after landing in our comparison of taxi, Bolt and car.
How Much Does Parking with Transfer Cost
The price of parking near Bratislava Airport depends on two things: length of stay and season. Winter months (November to March) are significantly cheaper than summer (June to August).
For reference, a few points from the current price list:
- 2 days: from €23 (winter) to €36 (summer)
- 5 days: from €33 (winter) to €52 (summer)
- 7 days: from €40 (winter) to €63 (summer)
- 10 days: from €46 (winter) to €75 (summer)
- 14 days: from €58 (winter) to €92 (summer)
The price includes a guarded car park and transport directly to the terminal. On your return, the shuttle comes after you call, usually within ten minutes. You'll find the current price for your specific dates in the price list.
When Bolt Wins
Bolt makes sense in two scenarios.
First: you're flying alone on a short trip (1 to 3 days), live in Bratislava and travel without much luggage. In that case, a round trip Bolt for €20 to €36 is often comparable or cheaper than parking, especially in summer season.
Second: you're flying as a couple for 1 to 2 days and returning during the day. Bolt will cost you the same €20 to €36 for both rides combined, which is competitive.
In both cases, however, keep in mind that on your return you'll be waiting for a driver on the pavement with your luggage, and at night times and prices change.
When Car with Parking Wins
In all other cases, a car is the more sensible choice, for reasons that aren't always just about price.
Group of 4 people with a lot of luggage: Bolt is practically out of the question due to capacity. A car is the only practical choice regardless of trip length.
Travelling from outside Bratislava: From Trnava, Nitra, Piešťany or Žilina, you can't call a Bolt to the airport. A car is the obvious choice.
Early morning departure: Bolt at three or four in the morning isn't a given. There are fewer drivers, waiting times are longer and prices higher. With your own car, you simply get in and go. TUKAN Parking has transfers available even at night.
Late night arrival: After midnight, you wait longer for Bolt and prices can spike. Your own car in the car park means within ten minutes of landing you're on your way home.
Lots of luggage: In Bolt you have exactly as much space as the specific driver gives you in their specific car. With your own car, you load what you need.
What If You're Not Travelling from Bratislava?
For travellers from cities outside Bratislava, a car is the only sensible choice. The question is only where to park. The official P2 car park at the airport costs significantly more than external car parks and isn't worth it for longer stays. An external car park with transfer is the best value for money and convenience for non-Bratislava travellers. You'll find more about the differences between P1, P2 and external car parks in our car park comparison.
What Else to Consider Besides Price
Reliability is often more important than price itself. For early departures and night arrivals, your own car is the safest bet because it doesn't depend on driver availability.
Comfort on return is another thing. After a long flight, you want to get home as quickly as possible. With a car in the car park, just call the shuttle, get in and go. No waiting for Bolt with suitcases on the pavement.
And finally, certainty. You can book parking at Bratislava Airport in advance and know you have a space. With Bolt, you don't know in advance.
Simple Overview
Alone, short trip, from Bratislava centre, during the day → Bolt is fine.
As a couple, 1 to 2 days, during the day → comparable, decide based on convenience.
Family, more luggage, morning or night flight, travelling from outside Bratislava, or flying for more than a few days → airport parking.
